Make a flavorful, authentic pizza sauce using pantry staples in under 10 minutes with this simple no-cook recipe.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (28 ounce) can whole peeled tomatoes (San Marzano preferred)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced finely
  • 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

Instructions

  1. Pour the canned tomatoes into a medium bowl.
  2. Crush the whole tomatoes by hand until you reach your desired consistency. For a smoother sauce, pulse briefly with an immersion blender, but do not over-blend.
  3. Add the minced garlic, olive oil, oregano, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes to the tomatoes.
  4. Stir all ingredients together until well combined.
  5. Taste the sauce and adjust salt or pepper if needed.
  6. Use immediately on your pizza dough.

Notes

  • For a New York style sauce, use slightly less oregano and add a pinch of sugar if your tomatoes are acidic.
  • If you prefer a very thick sauce, drain some of the excess liquid from the canned tomatoes before crushing.
  • This sauce tastes best when made fresh, but you can store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
