Make tender sweet potatoes coated in a rich, buttery brown sugar glaze using this simple oven-baked recipe.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 lbs sweet potatoes, peeled and sliced into 1/2-inch thick rounds
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. Arrange the sliced sweet potatoes in a single layer in the prepared baking dish.
  3. In a medium bowl, whisk together the melted butter, brown sugar, water, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt until the sugar is mostly dissolved. This is your glaze.
  4. Pour the glaze evenly over the sweet potatoes in the baking dish.
  5. Cover the baking dish tightly with aluminum foil.
  6. Bake for 45 minutes.
  7. Remove the foil and carefully stir the potatoes to coat them with the thickened glaze.
  8. Return the dish to the oven, uncovered, and bake for another 15 to 20 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender and the glaze is thick and bubbly.
  9. Let the potatoes rest for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, substitute 2 tablespoons of the brown sugar with maple syrup.
  • If you prefer a softer texture, you can boil the sweet potato slices for 5 minutes before arranging them in the dish.
  • You can add chopped pecans during the last 10 minutes of uncovered baking for added crunch.
