Make this simple, gooey cherry dessert by just dumping the ingredients into a pan and baking. It requires no mixing.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (21 ounce) can cherry pie filling
  • 1 (15.25 ounce) box yellow cake mix (dry, do not prepare)
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup chopped pecans (optional, for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. Pour the entire can of cherry pie filling into the bottom of the prepared dish. Spread it evenly.
  3. Sprinkle the dry yellow cake mix evenly over the cherry filling layer. Do not stir or mix.
  4. Pour the melted butter evenly over the dry cake mix layer.
  5. If using, sprinkle the chopped pecans over the top.
  6. Bake for 45 to 55 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the filling is bubbly around the edges.
  7. Let the cake cool slightly before serving warm, perhaps with vanilla ice cream.

Notes

  • For a slightly different flavor, substitute the yellow cake mix with white or almond cake mix.
  • If you prefer a richer topping, use brown sugar instead of pecans on top of the butter.
  • This recipe works well in a slow cooker on low for 3 to 4 hours; do not cover the slow cooker lid tightly.
