Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef (80/20 recommended)
  • 1 pound ground turkey
  • 1 large yellow onion, chopped
  • 1 (15 ounce) can kidney beans, rinsed and drained
  • 1 (15 ounce) can black beans, rinsed and drained
  • 1 (14.5 ounce) can diced tomatoes, undrained
  • 1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce
  • 1 (4 ounce) can green chilies, undrained
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons chili powder
  • 1 tablespoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust to your heat preference)
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Place the ground beef and ground turkey into your slow cooker. Break up the meat slightly with a spoon.
  2. Add the chopped onion, rinsed beans, diced tomatoes (with juice), tomato sauce, green chilies, and beef broth to the slow cooker.
  3. Sprinkle the chili powder, cumin, oregano, smoked paprika, garlic powder, and cayenne pepper over the mixture. Add salt and pepper.
  4. Stir all ingredients together in the slow cooker until they are well combined.
  5. Cover the slow cooker and cook on LOW for 6 to 8 hours, or on HIGH for 3 to 4 hours.
  6. Stir the chili before serving. Taste and adjust seasonings if needed.
  7. Serve your crockpot chili hot with your favorite toppings.

Notes

  • For a thicker chili, remove the lid for the last 30 minutes of cooking time on the HIGH setting.
  • This recipe freezes well; portion leftovers into freezer-safe containers for future easy meals.
  • If you prefer a pure beef crockpot chili, substitute the turkey with another pound of ground beef.
  • If you want a turkey chili slow cooker version only, use 2 pounds of ground turkey instead of a mix.
