Make this easy, cheesy breakfast casserole using flaky croissants, savory ham, and a rich egg custard. It is perfect for feeding a crowd at brunch or on a weekend morning.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (10 ounce) package frozen, unbaked croissants
  • 1 cup diced fully cooked ham
  • 1 cup shredded Swiss cheese
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. Arrange the unbaked croissants in a single layer in the prepared dish. Tear some croissants if needed to fit the bottom evenly.
  3. Sprinkle the diced ham and Swiss cheese over the croissants. Top with the cheddar cheese.
  4. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, Dijon mustard, salt, and pepper until well combined.
  5. Pour the egg mixture evenly over the croissant and meat layer. Gently press down on the croissants to help them absorb the liquid.
  6. Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight.
  7. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Remove the plastic wrap.
  8. Bake for 40 to 45 minutes, or until the casserole is puffed, golden brown on top, and a knife inserted near the center comes out clean.
  9. Let the casserole rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • For a make-ahead option, assemble the entire casserole through step 4, cover tightly, and refrigerate up to 24 hours before baking. Add 5 to 10 minutes to the baking time if baking directly from the refrigerator.
  • You can substitute Gruyère cheese for the Swiss cheese for a nuttier flavor.
  • Add 1 cup of chopped fresh spinach with the ham for extra vegetables.
