You need a flavorful vegetable side dish that cooks fast? Try these crispy roasted green beans tossed with garlic, butter, and Parmesan cheese. This recipe makes bland green beans a thing of the past and is perfect for weeknight dinners or holiday tables.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound fresh green beans, trimmed
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper for easy cleanup.
  2. Place the trimmed green beans on the prepared baking sheet.
  3. In a small bowl, whisk together the olive oil, melted butter, and minced garlic.
  4. Pour the butter mixture over the green beans and toss them well until every bean is coated.
  5. Sprinkle the salt and pepper over the beans and toss again.
  6. Spread the green beans into a single layer on the baking sheet. Do not overcrowd the pan; use two sheets if necessary for maximum crispiness.
  7. Roast for 12 to 15 minutes.
  8. Remove the pan from the oven and immediately sprinkle the grated Parmesan cheese evenly over the hot green beans. Toss gently to coat.
  9. Return the beans to the oven for another 3 to 5 minutes, or until the Parmesan is lightly golden and the beans are tender-crisp.
  10. Serve these delicious green beans right away.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add a pinch of red pepper flakes along with the salt and pepper before roasting.
  • If you want a Southern-style twist, try tossing the cooked beans with a tablespoon of crumbled cooked bacon instead of Parmesan.
  • Do not skip spreading the beans in a single layer; this step is key to achieving that irresistible crispy texture.
