1 teaspoon soy sauce
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
2 (14.5 ounce) cans cut green beans, drained
1 1/3 cups crispy fried onions, divided

Bake for 25 minutes.
Remove the casserole from the oven. Sprinkle the remaining 3/4 cup of crispy fried onions evenly over the top.

Let the casserole cool for a few minutes before you serve it.
Notes
You can prepare this entire casserole ahead of time. Assemble everything except the final topping, cover it, and refrigerate for up to 24 hours. When ready to bake, add 10 minutes to the initial baking time.
For a Southern green bean casserole twist, stir in 1/2 cup of shredded sharp cheddar cheese with the green beans.
If you want a homemade green bean casserole flavor, you can substitute the canned soup with a homemade mushroom sauce.
