Make a classic steakhouse wedge salad featuring a crisp iceberg lettuce wedge topped with creamy blue cheese dressing, bacon, and fresh tomatoes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 head iceberg lettuce
  • 4 slices thick-cut bacon, cooked crispy and crumbled
  • 1 cup cherry or grape tomatoes, halved
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped red onion
  • 2 tablespoons fresh chives, chopped
  • 1/2 cup blue cheese crumbles (for topping)
  • For the Dressing:
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 1/4 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup quality blue cheese, crumbled
  • 1 tablespoon white wine vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the bacon: Cook the bacon until crisp. Remove from heat, drain on paper towels, and crumble once cooled. Set aside.
  2. Make the blue cheese dressing: In a medium bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, sour cream, buttermilk, white wine vinegar, Dijon mustard, and garlic powder until smooth.
  3. Stir in the 1/2 cup of blue cheese crumbles. Season with salt and pepper. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed. If the dressing is too thick, add buttermilk one teaspoon at a time until desired consistency is reached.
  4. Prepare the lettuce: Remove the outer leaves of the iceberg lettuce. Cut the head into four equal wedges, keeping the core intact to hold the wedge shape.
  5. Assemble the salad: Place one lettuce wedge on each serving plate.
  6. Spoon a generous amount of the blue cheese dressing over the top of each wedge, allowing some to drip down the sides.
  7. Top each salad with the crumbled bacon, halved tomatoes, chopped red onion, and a sprinkle of fresh chives.
  8. Garnish with the remaining blue cheese crumbles before serving immediately.

Notes

  • For a thicker dressing, reduce the buttermilk slightly.
  • You can substitute blue cheese crumbles with a blue cheese vinaigrette if you prefer a lighter topping.
  • Use high-quality, pungent blue cheese for the best flavor in the dressing.
